¨As a teacher and a graduate of our public schools, I'm running to ensure that Fairfax County Public Schools continue to offer all of our students a world-class education that celebrates our diversity, to create stronger community partnerships, and to find innovative and forward-thinking solutions to our budget so every child in Fairfax public schools is ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. Dalia Palchik, candidate for Fairfax County School Board in Providence, was named Fairfax County Democratic Committee Member of the Year at the committee's annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner on April 26.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, who presented the award, said: "Each District had the opportunity to select a District award winner for District Committee Member of the Year, which recognizes the most instrumental District Committee Member. From these District winners, the FCDC Member of the Year was selected. This year’s winner is Dalia Palchik from Providence District. Dalia joined FCDC just last year, but immediately threw herself into being involved in FCDC, helping out at many events, getting to know everyone in FCDC, and quickly rising to the be the Chair of FCDC’s State and Local Affairs Committee. She then threw her hat into the ring to run for School Board from Providence, and is running a great campaign."

Fairfax gay rights advocate Charles Keener noted that one of the two school board members who voted against the curriculum changes, Patty Reed, is being challenged in the November election by an LGBT supportive teacher, Dalia Palchik.
